XRP Market Intelligence — Week of September 28–October 4, 2026

Summary

XRP's week after the squeeze was the inverse of the week before it. Instead of an 8.7% gap-up and an eight-month high, a quiet inside week that drifted to $1.5202, up 0.7% on this report's Sunday-close series, inside a $1.4537–$1.5552 band. The story moved from price to structure. ETF flows extended their streak to a twelfth consecutive positive week but at +$4.74 million — the thinnest of the run — while the complex's net assets fell to $1.66 billion against $1.79 billion of cumulative inflows, a $133 million gap that widened from roughly $20 million a week earlier. Venue open interest dipped and rebuilt — Binance's perp book to ~$485 million by October 1, then $580 million by October 2 — while the last full-market print remains the September 23 record of $4.10 billion. RLUSD crossed $2.5 billion on its widest four-read spread yet. And the calendar that closes the week — three XRPL amendments activating within eighteen hours of each other in the days ahead, and Evernorth's 473 million XRP treasury listing as XRPN on Nasdaq the same day — sets up the week ahead as a governance-and-institution week rather than a price week.

Week-over-week scoreboard

Before the narrative, the deltas. Each line compares this edition with the one published a week earlier, so the direction of travel is visible without re-reading two reports.

Sources per row: CoinMarketCap XRP-USD (closes, the site's established series); SoSoValue via PANews / Odaily (flows, cumulative, net assets; week ending Oct 2); CoinGape / PrimeXBT (venue-level open interest, funding); DefiLlama and the four dated RLUSD reads (RLUSD); COINOTAG (circulating supply); AnalystMarkets and KuCoin weekly reviews (sentiment). Prior-edition figures are taken from the September 28 edition of this report as published.

Read as a set, the seven lines describe a market that digested a squeeze without extending it. Price crept up 0.7%, the venue leverage books dipped and rebuilt inside the range, and the stablecoin kept compounding — yet the ETF complex's headline number collapsed from +$75.6M to +$4.74M and its net-asset gap blew out to $133M. The interpretation is the same one the Data Report's stress table flagged: capital stopped arriving, but the book did not de-risk. A market that holds leverage while flows thin is a market waiting for a catalyst — and this week's catalyst is a calendar of protocol and corporate events, not a price print.

The tape

Closes per CoinMarketCap XRP-USD daily OHLC, week of Sep 28–Oct 4 — the same series used in prior editions. Intraday extremes per the week's dated session reports: low $1.4537, high $1.5552 (Monday's intraday high reached $1.5784).

Three features of this tape deserve recording. First, it was an inside week: every close sat between the prior week's $1.5098 close and its $1.6536 high, with the realized daily range the narrowest of the quarter — the signature of a market absorbing the prior week's move rather than extending or reversing it. Second, the week's high was a Monday intraday print, not a close: $1.5784 on Monday and $1.5552 on Tuesday were both given back by the Friday $1.4850 close, so the supply above $1.55 is now confirmed twice — once in the squeeze rejection, once in this week's failure to reclaim it. Third, the Sunday close pop is the only bullish price event of the week, and it is a low-liquidity one; weekend volume sets the number, weekday volume sets the story, and this story was told on thin weekend books.

One distortion to hold in mind while reading the table. This is a midnight-UTC close series, and the week's real extremes are intraday — $1.4537 on Friday and $1.5784 on Monday, a 8.6% spread that no close series can express. Anyone quoting "the week's range" without saying whether they mean closes or intraday is describing a different market from the one that settled. The close-to-close move was +0.7%; the intraday round trip was materially larger and net-flat.

ETF flows: the streak holds, the bid thins

The week totalled +$4.74 million — a twelfth consecutive positive week, but the thinnest of the run by a wide margin after the prior week's +$75.6 million. The daily granularity for this week was not separately published at the same resolution as the prior week's, so this report cites the weekly total rather than reconstructing sessions that were not itemised. Cumulative inflows reached about $1.79 billion against net assets of $1.66 billion; holdings stand at roughly 1.18 billion XRP across the complex, about 1.9% of supply (SoSoValue via Finobird, U.Today).

The $133 million gap between net assets and cumulative inflows is the number that reframes the whole flow series. A week earlier the gap was ~$20 million; now it is $133 million — and the explanation is mechanical, not bullish. The complex's average purchase price sits above the current $1.52, because most of the capital arrived during August at higher prices. Cumulative contributed capital therefore keeps rising while mark-to-market net assets fall, and the gap is the distance between what holders paid in and what they currently hold. In a complex whose average dollar is under water, inflows are averaging-down, not allocation. Two further context points keep the week honest. First, Solana's ETF complex has now overtaken XRP's on net assets: SOL funds hold ~$1.91 billion versus XRP's $1.66 billion, making XRP the second-largest single-asset crypto ETF by net assets rather than the largest. Second, September's monthly total of $121.4 million is now complete, and this week's $4.74 million is only ~3.9% of it — 62% of the month landed in the single Sep 21–25 squeeze week ($75.6 million).

Derivatives

The venue books dipped, then rebuilt. Binance's XRP perp open interest fell 15.3% from its six-month high to ~$485 million by October 1 (CryptoQuant via PrimeXBT), then recovered to $580 million by October 2 as the jobs print drew longs back, with Hyperliquid rising from $284 million to $314 million and the long/short ratio at 2.31 (CoinGlass via CoinGape, Oct 2). OI-weighted funding held at +0.01% on October 2 — its highest since September 23, but still near-neutral, a mild long bias with no sign of the overheated perpetual positioning that preceded the squeeze. One honesty note: no full-market OI total was published inside the window, so the September 23 nine-month record of $4.10 billion remains the last dated full-market read and is carried rather than restated.

The tells for the week ahead are specific. Binance's book holding above $550M with price consolidating is a book that has committed and is waiting; it falling back below $500M is the squeeze's fuel departing; it rebuilding further while $1.55 refuses to break is the least comfortable combination, because it converts the $1.60 wall into a liquidation level for late longs. The single most informative derivative print this week was the absence of one: no new full-market record, no funding spike, no leverage extreme — just venue books that dipped and rebuilt under a $1.52 coin. That is a market in suspension, not a market in motion.

Relative context

The week's cross-asset scoreboard is worth stating in full, because "XRP was quiet" is only useful next to the magnitude. Per CoinMarketCap-based weekly reviews, Bitcoin closed up roughly 2.4–2.5% ($84.5K → $86.5K), Ether added about 1.6–1.8% ($2,651 → $2,699), and Solana rose roughly 2.0% ($118 → $120), while XRP managed only +0.2–0.8% on the same-window cuts — and +0.7% on this report's Sunday-close series (BTCtiming; AnalystMarkets; KuCoin weekly reviews). AnalystMarkets puts XRP's relative strength versus BTC at −2.2pp. Total crypto capitalization rose about 1.8% to $2.92 trillion, BTC dominance ticked up to 59.1–59.3%, and Fear & Greed sat in "Greed" at 65–73. XRP's +0.7% thus trailed every major except on its own terms — the post-squeeze premium versus BTC partially gave back.

The genuinely XRP-specific news was all constructive-to-neutral and none of it moved price. Three XRPL amendments reached activation thresholds (votes of 29, 34 and 30 out of 35 validators, above the 28 needed); Evernorth filed a 473 million XRP treasury vehicle (XRPN) for a Nasdaq listing due within days at a $2.37 signing price, a 37% discount to spot; RLUSD crossed $2.5 billion; and Chainalysis closed the file on North Korea's largest-ever theft, attributing 40.8% of the $1.6 billion taken to XRP-address formats (behind Ether's 49.7%). A week in which the structural story improved and the price did not is a "news-rich, price-quiet" week — and the historical offset is the −4.71% October seasonal average, a statistical headwind, not a forecast.

Two structural points keep the relative picture honest. The first is the custody asymmetry this site's supply map makes explicit: exchanges hold roughly 20.3 billion XRP against ETF custody of 1.18 billion, so venue order books — not vehicle creation — remain the marginal price-setter. The second is the distance still to travel: at $1.5202 the token is up roughly 47% over three months but down about 17% year-to-date and about 58% below its July 2025 all-time high of $3.65 (24/7 Wall St.; calculated). A seven-day gain of 0.7% is a quiet week inside a still-negative year.

The week ahead

  • Three XRPL amendments activate within eighteen hours, in the days ahead: validator support of 29, 34 and 30 out of 35 — above the 28-vote threshold — with the cluster including BatchV1_1 (up to eight linked transactions settling atomically, with delivery-versus-payment) and PermissionDelegationV1_1 (delegated transaction permissions). The eighteen-hour window is the ledger's most institutionally-legible governance event of the quarter, conditional on support holding through activation (Banx Network; U.Today).
  • Evernorth's XRPN is set to list on Nasdaq in the days ahead: a treasury vehicle holding 473 million XRP at a $2.37 signing price (a 37% discount to spot), 20,514,034 shares, more than $1 billion in notional, and a $30 million convertible note — the second structural buyer alongside the ETF complex and the subject of this week's Deep Dive (company filing via NR).
  • Escrow after the October 1 release: 1 billion XRP unlocked, 700 million re-escrowed, 300 million net, balance at 31.54 billion. The re-escrow rate is the only line in an unlock story that carries information; the release itself was the month's scheduled event, not a surprise.
  • ETF flows: the question is whether the complex can hold a thirteenth consecutive positive week at this thin pace, now that Solana's funds have overtaken it on net assets. September's $121.4 million monthly total is complete and still below August's record ≈$159.2 million.
  • Macro is the quiet backdrop: no FOMC until late in the month, with hold odds at 71.8–77.9% after the weak +29K payrolls print pushed hike odds below 30%; the 10-year yield near 5.3% is the binding constraint on risk-asset multiples. XRP's beta has cut both ways all quarter, so a Bitcoin stall after an $87K rejection would remove the tailwind this week relied on (KuCoin weekly; AnalystMarkets).

Scenarios for the week ahead

Three branches, each with a trigger that can be checked against public data rather than argued about afterwards.

BranchTrigger to watchLevel implicationWhat it would mean
Accumulation extendsA daily close above $1.55 on spot volume above $5B, with Binance's open interest holding above $550M and the ETF streak intactReopens $1.60, the February wall and inverse-head-and-shoulders neckline; the $1.65–$1.70 supply zone becomes the next testThe post-squeeze base was built by spot, not re-levered; the August 22 cohort begins to be absorbed on the way up
Base builds below the wall (base case)Price holds $1.45–$1.55 while Binance's open interest stays $500–600M and flows stay positive but thinRange-bound consolidation with $1.45 as the floor and $1.55 as the ceiling; $1.60 remains overheadThe squeeze's gains were held by spot rather than re-levered — the least dramatic and most constructive outcome available
Squeeze gives it all backA close below $1.45, especially with Binance's open interest above $580M and ETF flows turning negative$1.41 reopens (the Sep 21 low at $1.4078), then $1.38 per the technical mapsThe rally was rented: leverage that held through a flat week exits into a thin bid, and the base was tactical rather than structural

The base case is the middle one and it is the least satisfying to trade: a market that proved it can move 17% in a week, holds venue leverage near its September records under it, and cannot yet reclaim $1.55. The branch that would change this report's mind fastest is the first — not because $1.55 is a large distance, but because a close above it with rising volume would require the August 22 cohort to be absorbed on the way up, and that is a structural event rather than a price event. The branch that would worry it most is the third, precisely because the leverage held through a flat week means the exit door is no wider than it was a week ago.

$1.38Round support / August 22 close areaThe level the trapped August cohort bought into; a close below it reopens the summer range
$1.41Sep 21 intraday low ($1.4078)The squeeze's origin. A close below it would mean the entire move was retraced

FAQ

Why is XRP "up 0.7%" here when other trackers showed +0.2%?

Different start points for the same seven days. This report uses Sunday-close to Sunday-close on one series: $1.5098 on September 27 to $1.5202 on October 4. Trackers anchored to a Monday open or a different cut get a smaller number — AnalystMarkets' +0.2% uses a $1.52 open to a $1.52 close. All are true at their own cut times; we quote one series consistently and name it.

Is the ETF streak healthy at +$4.74M?

Twelve consecutive positive weeks is a streak; +$4.74M is the thinnest of them. The real story is the net-asset gap: net assets of $1.66B against $1.79B of cumulative inflows, a $133M gap versus ~$20M a week earlier, because the complex's average purchase price sits above spot. September's monthly total of $121.4M is complete and still below August's record ≈$159.2M.

Did XRP outperform this week?

No. On a same-window comparison XRP rose ~0.7% (or +0.2% on some cuts) while Bitcoin rose ~2.4–2.5%, Ether ~1.6–1.8% and Solana ~2.0%. AnalystMarkets puts XRP's relative strength versus BTC at −2.2pp. It was a news-rich, price-quiet week: the amendments, the Evernorth treasury and RLUSD's $2.5B milestone were all constructive and none moved the tape.

What is the most important date on the near calendar?

The days just ahead: three XRPL amendments activate within an eighteen-hour window (validator votes of 29/34/30 of 35, above the 28 threshold), and Evernorth’s XRPN is set to list on Nasdaq in the same window. Of the two, the amendment cluster matters most for the institutional narrative and the treasury listing matters most for the flow narrative.

Is this financial advice?

No. XRPLinsights publishes research and commentary for informational purposes. Nothing here is a recommendation to buy or sell XRP or any other asset.
