Weekly Intelligence — Week of August 31–September 6, 2026
This column takes the week's five most consequential questions and answers each with sourced data — every figure carries its source and snapshot date, and nothing without a public paper trail is printed. This edition was revised on September 14, 2026 under our fully sourced data policy.

Question 1 — What actually ended on September 2?
The longest daily inflow streak in the complex's history — 11 sessions, +~$170M — ended on Wednesday, September 2 with a single −$7.20M outflow (SoSoValue daily prints; via 24/7 Wall St., Sep 10). Then: +$6.14M the next session, a flat session after. The week's net: ≈+$15.4M (calculated).
My take: what ended was a streak, not a bid. The outflow was 0.4% of the record week's intake; the resumption came the very next session. Streaks are narrative — flows are data — and the data says the allocation cadence (roughly $5–11M per day in the streak's quiet stretches) is intact. The honest indicator for the Fed week is not whether a streak exists; it is whether the daily prints stay non-negative through a red tape if one arrives.
Question 2 — Who bought the $170M streak, and what did they pay?
The streak's composition: $43.06M over August 18–21 (calculated), a record $110.49M week over August 24–28, and the two calculated September sessions. The buyers entered across a $1.42–$1.70 tape — above where the token closed the week (~$1.38–$1.44). Issuer split of the record month: Bitwise ~$92M (61%), Franklin ~$36M, Canary ~$15M (SoSoValue via Finobird / Summa Money). Retail remains ~84% of complex inflows (Q2 13F aggregation via Seyffart / Yellow.com, Aug 31).
My take: on paper, the streak is underwater — contributed capital (~$1.67B) sits ~$230M above net assets ($1.44B, calculated from the Aug 31 prints). Buyers adding below their own average entry, in a cadence that looks scheduled, is either conviction or averaging-down; the Fed's September 16 decision is the stress test that distinguishes them. The behavioral evidence so far — a $7.2M exit against $170M of entry — leans conviction.
Question 3 — Where does RLUSD stand entering September?
Above $2B and compounding: $2.02B at the August 25 crossing (RWA.xyz via Crypto Times), $1B+ on the XRPL side since August 28 — over 90% of the ledger's stablecoin supply (Ripple via COINOTAG) — and $2.32B in September's compilation (RWA.xyz via crypto.news). The holder profile stayed wholesale: 84,630 holders, $11.81B monthly transfer volume (+17% MoM) against 8,252 active addresses (−25.2% MoM) (RWA.xyz via Crypto Times, Aug 25).
My take: the volume-up-addresses-down split is the story inside the story. RLUSD is consolidating into fewer, larger hands — corridor operators, not retail — which is the enterprise design working, with the known trade-off: redemption risk arrives in blocks, not drips. The $2.32B September print (+15% from the crossing) says corridor demand did not pause for the holiday week.
Question 4 — Where does positioning settle after the OI reset?
Open interest ended August down 15.5% from August 17 (block figure — CoinGlass via CoinDesk, Sep 8), and September's later baseline reads ~2.24B XRP ($3.06B, Sep 14) — below the August peak. Funding turned positive on August 28 near +0.01%/8h and has essentially stayed there (CoinGlass via Coin Journal).
My take: the reset left the market lighter and calmer — no leverage fuel under the tape, no liquidation cascade in the fade, funding hovering a hair above zero. That is a market waiting for a catalyst rather than positioning for one. The rebuild's pace into September 16 tells you whether the next leg is carried by leverage or by the funds.
Question 5 — What do September 15–16 decide?
The stack: Senate CLARITY cloture on the 15th (60 votes, House breaking the 17th), the Fed's decision on the 16th, a CPI print between (CoinGabbar). The market's position going in is definable: record August flows (~$159.2M final tally, SoSoValue), a token down roughly a quarter year-to-date, support holding at $1.30–$1.38, resistance stacked at $1.50 and the $1.65–$1.70 supply zone.
My take: two-sided, and the flow data is the tiebreaker. A dovish print with the resumption intact hands the supply zone its first well-sponsored retest. A hawkish surprise tests the $1.30 shelf with the $1.00–$1.05 summer shelf as the structural reference. Either way, the decision resolves the flows-price divergence — from the flow side (if inflows continue through a red tape) or the price side (if they don't).
A note on the scorecard
This column's outlook scorecard is being rebuilt on the fully sourced data standard and debuts with the September 13 issue, scored from zero. The August and early-September editions carry no recorded calls: predictions made under the previous data regime cannot be honestly graded against sources we no longer stand behind, so we retire them rather than re-grade them.

FAQ
Is the inflow streak over for good?
The 11-session streak is over; the bid is not. The ending was a single −$7.20M outflow (Sep 2) followed by +$6.14M (Sep 3) and a flat session — and flows resumed in earnest the following week (+$19.0M over Sep 8–10, per SoSoValue via 24/7 Wall St.). A pause, not a departure.
Why is the weekly ETF flow labeled "calculated"?
Because the August 31 and September 1 daily prints were not published as standalone rows in the sources used here; they are derived from the streak's total minus the published windows. Every other session in the week is a direct print.
Why no scorecard in this issue?
The scorecard restarts from zero with the September 13 issue under the fully sourced data policy. Calls made under the previous regime are retired, not re-graded — grading predictions against sources we no longer stand behind would manufacture false precision.
