XRP Market Intelligence — Week of August 24–30, 2026
Summary
The week of August 24–30 was the digestion week: every flow record in the complex's history broke, and none of it moved price. XRP slid from the $1.70 high of August 22 through $1.50 and $1.42 to roughly $1.38 by Monday, August 31 (CriptoFacil, Aug 22–24; Yellow.com, Aug 31–Sep 1), while the ETF complex absorbed +$110.49M — the largest week of 2026 — inside a $153.55M record month (SoSoValue via Yellow.com, Aug 31; Finobird; Summa Money). Open interest fell 15.5% over Aug 17–31; funding turned positive on August 28. The market closes August with a definable tension: the strongest behavioral demand in the complex's history, parked under a fading tape, two weeks ahead of the Fed.
The tape
| Level | Reading | Source, date |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly high | ~$1.50 area at the open (stabilization zone from the Aug 23 rejection) | CriptoFacil, Aug 22–24 |
| Weekly path | $1.50 → $1.42 → the high $1.30s | CriptoFacil; Yellow.com, Aug 31–Sep 1 |
| Monday Aug 31 print | ~$1.38 | Yellow.com, Aug 31–Sep 1 |
| August monthly close | +28% — 2026's best month; range $0.9874 (Aug 14) to $1.70 (Aug 22) | Yellow.com, Aug 31; edgeX; CriptoFacil |
Character of the week: orderly distribution without panic. The fade from the $1.70 spike took five sessions and never threatened the $1.30 shelf — sellers worked the tape down through the levels the reclaim had flipped ($1.42, then $1.50), and buyers absorbed without chasing. Contrast this with the violent reclaim of the prior week (+70% in 72 hours) and the read is consistent: a spot-led market with no leverage fuel moves violently in both directions but holds structure underneath.
Flows
The inflow streak that began August 18 ran through its seventh to eleventh sessions this week. The daily prints added up to the largest week of 2026:
| Window | Net flow | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Aug 18–21 (4 sessions) | +$43.06M (calculated) | $153.55M month-to-Aug-28 minus the record week |
| Aug 24–28 (5 sessions) | +$110.49M | Largest week of 2026; largest since the ~$231M week ending Dec 5 |
| August through Aug 28 | $153.55M | All-time monthly record; beats May $131.94M / Apr $81.59M / Feb $58.09M |
| Cumulative by Aug 31 | ~$1.67B | ~1.11B XRP held by the funds (~1% of total supply, one tracker estimate) |
Issuer split of the record month: Bitwise ~$92M (61%), Franklin ~$36M, Canary ~$15M, others ~$7M (SoSoValue via Finobird / Summa Money / Yahoo Finance). Net assets rose from $1.33B to $1.44B in a week (SoSoValue via Yellow.com, Aug 31) — still ~$230M below contributed capital (calculated), the mark-to-market gap this column tracks weekly.
Derivatives
Futures open interest fell 15.5% over August 17–31 — a block figure; weekly interpolation was not published (CoinGlass via CoinDesk, Sep 8). Read together with the tape: a +28% month carried by spot fund demand and short covering, not fresh leverage. Funding had no verifiable weekly print in this window; later coverage dated the positive turn to August 28, near +0.01%/8h (CoinGlass via Coin Journal) — the positioning rebuild, not the leverage cycle, is what September inherits.
Relative strength
Two comparisons frame the week. Against itself: XRP retained the core of August's re-rating — +28% for the month even after surrendering 40% of the spike's range — while open interest fell, a spot-led signature. Against Bitcoin: the BTC complex took in roughly $3.52B in August (SoSoValue, September tally) against XRP's record $153.55M — about one-twentieth the scale, but XRP's print is its own all-time monthly record, set in the complex's tenth month of existence. The flows are small at market scale and historic at complex scale; both facts price in.
Week ahead
- The decision stack. Senate CLARITY cloture September 15 (60 votes; House breaking September 17), the Fed's September 16 decision, and a CPI print between them (CoinGabbar).
- The daily flow prints. The streak's endurance is the divergence's test: watch the dailies, not the weekly sum.
- The positioning rebuild. Funding back above zero (Aug 28) plus an OI base rebuilt at higher prices would give the next leg fuel; a flat rebuild keeps the tape fund-driven.
- RLUSD cadence. Treasury mint/burn operations through the first week of September tell whether corridor demand held the $2B line.
Levels
| Level | Read |
|---|---|
| $1.65–$1.70 | The multi-month supply zone; the Aug 22 spike printed inside it and failed within hours |
| $1.50 | First resistance above; reclaimed support given back during the digest |
| $1.42 | The reclaimed level from the reversal week; lost mid-week, now the first reclaim target |
| $1.38 | The month-end print; the near pivot |
| $1.30 | The shelf that held all week — "held above $1.30 through the pullback" (Summa Money) |
| $1.00–$1.05 | Structural reference: the summer shelf XRP left on August 11 after a 635-day run below $1 |
Bottom line
August was the month the institutional bid arrived on schedule and the price refused to confirm it. That is not a contradiction — it is a race between escrow's ~300M net monthly unlock plus a fading momentum tape and a fund complex that just printed its best month ever. The September decision stack (CLARITY September 15, the Fed September 16) is the forcing event, and the divergence resolves from whichever side breaks first: the flow side (inflows stop) or the price side ($1.30 gives). Until then, the tape's message is patient accumulation under distribution — and the ledger of daily flow prints is the honest scoreboard.

FAQ
Price fell while ETF inflows set records — which one is wrong?
Neither. Fund flows measure what investors contributed; price measures the marginal trade against escrow unlocks and a thin order book above $1.50. The $153.55M month (through Aug 28) is real, and so is the fade to ~$1.38. The reconciliation is the flows-versus-price divergence this column tracks weekly.
Why was the week's ETF total a record if price fell?
Because the flows are allocation-driven, not momentum-driven. The streak began August 18 after the drought broke; the $110.49M week is the streak's fifth through ninth sessions. Buyers adding below their own average entry is base-building behavior.
What does the −15.5% open-interest block figure cover?
August 17–31 as a block (CoinGlass via CoinDesk, Sep 8). No weekly interpolation was published for the window, so we print the block rather than estimate a weekly path.
